The Scottish Television visit Finzean School for a Bothy Ballad and Scots Language session. Special Guest: Hector Riddell.
A Story of Scotland’s Role in the Slave Trade. Aye it wis A’abody is a community heritage project that explores Scotland’s links with chattel slavery in the Caribbean, through the experience of one rural community and their school – Finzean School. Pupils learned about Gilbert Ramsay’s legacies.
Professor Sir Geoff Palmer OBE came to Finzean School to support the project and shared his knowledge and experiences with the pupils. “Sir Geoff’s discussions with the pupils were inspiring and thought provoking”.
Magic Torch Comics came to Finzean School and worked with the pupils on how to create a Graphic Novel. The end result would be to publish a Graphic Novel entitled “Aye it wis A’abody”.
Published as part of the Birse Community Trust “Aye, it wis aabody A story of Scotland’s Role in the Slave Trade” was funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Aberdeenshire Council and Birse Community Trust.
The Script was by Finzean School pupils and Magic Torch Comics with support from Matthew Lee and Sian Loftus.
A copy of Aye, It Wis Aabody was distributed to every primary school in Aberdeenshire, every pupil at a partner school in Jamaica and is available online.
